Abstract
Designing an object detection system capable of providing distance and direction information in real time is one of the applications of microcontrollers and ultrasonic sensors. The research question of this study is how to design an Arduino-based ultrasonic radar system capable of scanning objects, measuring distance, providing warnings based on a predefined distance threshold, and displaying scanning results visually. This study aims to design and implement a radar system using an Arduino Uno, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor, SG90 servo, buzzer, and Processing IDE. The method used is prototyping, which consists of requirements identification, system design, prototype development, system testing, evaluation, and system improvement.
The test results show that the system is capable of scanning within an angular range of 15°–165°, with an effective scanning coverage of 150°, and detecting objects at distances of 2 cm, 30 cm, 40 cm, and 400 cm. The buzzer is activated at distances of ?30 cm and remains inactive at distances >30 cm. The angle and distance data are successfully transmitted through serial communication and visualized using Processing IDE in a radar interface. The novelty of this study lies in integrating servo-based scanning, distance measurement using the HC-SR04, warning indicators, and scanning-result visualization into a single simple Arduino-based prototype. This study has not yet performed sensor calibration or quantitative accuracy and error calculations; therefore, the evaluation remains functional.
